The Role

The Senior DevOps Engineer is part of a collaborative customer requirements based team effort and develops software components for video management, processing and delivery to multiple TV platforms. The role involves defining, developing, deploying, operating and maintaining high volume online video transcoding and streaming systems that allow people to watch premium television shows and movies online.  This role will be focused on deployment automation into Cloud infrastructures including IBM’s Softlayer, IBM’s BlueBox OpenStack and Amazon AWS.   This engineer will need to be adept in creation and management of virtual infrastructures, connections between physical and virtual hosts, cloud storage systems, system tuning, networking and general Linux system administration (mail servers, DNS, NTP, access controls, software installs/upgrades etc.).  Experience with Debian Linux is preferred to RPM based distributions, but not critical.  This engineer should also be adept with automated configuration tools like Puppet (preferred), Ansible, Chef or similar.  Docker knowledge is a plus, but not required.  Candidates with Certifications will be given preference.  Candidates should also have a programming foundation in Java (preferred) or Python, and be adept writing and modifying shell scripts.

Experience / Skills Required


  • 5yrs - Experience Linux System administration in a production environment
  • 2yrs - Experience automating system configuration / deployment using a modern automation tool like Puppet (preferred), Ansible or Chef
  • 2yrs - Experience deploying, creating and managing virtual machine infrastructures (VMware, Softlayer, AWS, OpenStack, etc.)
  • 1yr - Java (preferred), C or C++ development


Additional Preffered Skills and Experience
  • BS or above in Computer Science or equivalent education experience
  • Certifications in Java, RHCE, AWS, or other relevant industry tools
  • Bash/Shell Scripting
  • Python Programming
  • Source code management using GIT
  • Knowledge of Continuous Integration and Agile Development
  • Operational knowledge of Jenkins
  • Centralized log collection / analysis using Sumo Logic, Splunk or similar
  • Clustered Java Application server deployment / tuning
  • Clustered Redis / Memcached / jboss cache
  • PostgreSQL DB administration
  • NFS / CIFS / Shared Storage / Clustered Storage (CEPH, HDFS, Cleversafe, etc.) administration
